George Entwistle appointed as BBC Director-General

George Entwistle, the current director of BBC Vision, has been named as the replacement for Mark Thompson at the BBC.

Entwistle will take over the role of Director-General from Thompson this autumn. BBC Trust Chairman Lord Patten said 'George is a creative leader for a creative organisation'. Entwistle has said of his promotion 'I love the BBC and it's a privilege to be asked to lead it into the next stage of its creative life'.
